荒廢許久的 TOEIC 800 分希望工程
最近又悄然地重新復工了
按新的計劃, 應該7月中可以把教材 (Longman Preparation Series for the New TOEIC(R) Test: Advanced Course) K完一輪
然後再花1到2月做大量的模擬測驗及複習
所以理論上, 今年的9月份
就可以去參加我生平第1次的TOEIC測驗....
會開始積極復工
主要是因為最近看了一些 GTD (Get Things Done) 時間管理的文章
發現過去一年, 自己的時間幾乎全賠在現在的工作上
雖然工作經驗有斬獲
但培養其他專長的時間幾乎是Zero!!!
應該要降低對自己在工作上的完美主義
才能抽出時間在其他事情上
然後這次從台北回北京途中
在機場買了一本書 - 三十歲代表了什麼
利用在飛機上的時間快速地K完後
有了一些啟發:
1. 發現自己雖然32歲了, 在職場上的某些心態還是像二十幾歲的小伙子
2. 發現自己現在是 "被動" 地學習新事物, 而非 "主動" 且 "有目標" 地學習
就驚覺不能再這麼沈淪下去了, 呵呵
所以重新擬定了一下1年, 3年及5年的工作目標
Simon!! 這次一定要 Stick to plan , 不能再半途而廢了啦~~~

Israel's Secret Service Goes PUBLIC
情報局一向讓人覺得很神秘的特勤單位
就如同它的英文 - Secret Service 一樣
而印象中, 情報員總是神出鬼沒, 出生入死的
不過最近, 以色列的情報局卻打破傳統....
成立了一個公開的 Blog
然後有幾個特勤人員員會在上面 Post 一些他們的生活故事
藉此滿足社會大眾對情報工作的好奇心
原文如下:
The tone is chatty, at times even facetious. The agents from Israel's internal security service, the Shin Bet, are shown in silhouette.
Agent Chet is the sole woman among them. She works in high-tech. She says she went to the agency because it offered her a better work-life balance than her previous job in the private sector. There are parts of her job, she says, which she can't discuss even with her husband,but there again, at home, they don't much like talking about work.
Agent Aleph, dubbed 'the expert' on the blog, attempts to debunk a few myths. "We don't work in a basement," he says. "We don't spend the day wearing earpieces. And we don't get to have flashing blue lights for our cars. We have to sit in traffic jams like everyone else."
The blogs are intended to draw members of the public into other areas of the Shin Bet website, in particular the recruitment section. A Shin Bet official told the BBC that the idea was to inform the public that the agency offers work beyond just stopping Palestinian paramilitary attacks. The official said that the agency had been cheered by the feedback from members of the Israeli public, keen to find out more about the jobs within Shin Bet, the pay and even the food.

讀後感想:
- 看來情報局還滿缺人的, 為了招攬更多人材, 還得別出心栽地弄個 Blogs 來招生....
- work-life balance 的意思就是"工作和家庭生活都能兼顧"....做情報員可以兼顧這兩者, 這點我是不信啦!!
- Dub 就是被封為什麼名號的意思, 譬如 I'm dubbed 'handsome boy' ^___^
- "We don't get to have flashing blue lights for our cars", 事實居然是這樣?! 以前就覺得電影裡的特勤人員這個部份最屌了, 緊急的時候, 就可以拿出一個警示燈, 打開車窗置放在車頂, 然後就可以在馬路上狂奔, 大家都要讓他....
- Beyond just 就是 Not only 的意思, 學起來
- Palestinian 是 "巴勒斯坦人", 而 Pakistani 是 "巴基斯坦人", 這兩個字我常搞混 @_@, 說到 Palestinian 就想到 PLO (巴勒斯坦解放組織), 它下面有很多游擊隊敢死隊專門跟以色列作對, 幹情報員?! 應該還滿刺激的....

Genmany, Liechtenstein in tax row
德國最近發生了一則跟富人逃稅有關的新聞
原本不管是哪一國人
只要是有錢人, 都還是有可能想不繳稅
人的劣根性呀....
原文如下:
Amid a growing diplomatic row, Chancellor Merkel was fairly blunt after she held talks with the prime minister of Liechtenstein, Otmar Hasler. At a news conference, the German Chancellor called for more transparency and she put pressure on Liechtenstein to crack down on fraud and co-operate with tax authorities in other countries.
German prosecutors have been searching offices and banks across the country, as part of their investigation into hundreds of Germans suspected of dodging taxes by channelling money into Liechtenstein. It all started last week when Klaus Zumwinkel resigned as chief executive of Germany's postal group after police raided his home. Liechtenstein's secretive banks and foundations have come under intense scrutiny.
Speaking in Berlin, the prime minister, Otmar Hasler, was keen to point out his government had stepped up efforts to bring criminals to justice and, he said, Liechtenstein would reform the laws governing the controversial foundations.
German politicians claim Liechtenstein's secretive banking laws have encouraged tax dodgers to take refuge there. As prosecutors continue their investigation, this affair is far from over.

讀後感:
- 原來 row 還可以當吵架或爭論的意思呀? (我一直以為只有 "一列" 的意思, 羞~) Diplomatic Row 就是指外交上的爭論
- 我還頭一次知道冇 Liechtenstein 這個國家, 是一個逃稅天堂 (可見我不是有錢人, 不然我應該會知道她), 因為她的法律是允許設立私密銀行及基金會的
- Channelling money into ... Channelling 就是 Tranferring 的意思, 但用 Channelling 好像感覺比較有程度點, CC
- Tax Dodger 就是逃稅的人, 希望有一天我也可以有這個能耐, 呵呵
- Chief executive of Germany's postal group after police raided his home. 嚕~~才不過被警察搜家而已, 就辭主席下台了, 實在太不夠堅持了!! 我記得我們的高雄市議員貪瀆案, 被判刑了, 還做到任期滿才下台, 這才叫有始有終, 不辜負選民期望呀!!
- This affair is far from over. 意思是 "事情才剛開始, 後面還有好戲看", 這句子要學起來, 新聞報導常會有類似的, 有點小幸災樂禍的結語

今年的目標 TOEIC 800 分
拖了許久的TOEIC考試
由於在我的工作清單裡Pioerity很低
常因為一些大小事, 就把它忽略了
這次決定, 今年一定要去參加一次 TOEIC 考試, 目標是800分....
其實去年我就有準備一段時間了
但後來又因為工作異動的關係就中斷了....
結果搞得現在得重買一次自修教材
因為今年台灣地區也改成考 NEW TOEIC 了
這告訴我們: 今年事今年畢, 拖到最後苦的還是自己
準備TOEIC考試, 最受大家推薦的就是 Longman Preparation Series for New TOEIC 這套書了
一共分成三級, 第三級即 Advanced Version, 內容最難, 適合想考800分以上的人準備
所以我就很好高騖遠地決定買 Advanced Version 來自習了
買這本書也是有一番心路歷程的, 有興趣的人可以繼續往下看 ^_^
Advanced Version 這套書含一片聽力光碟, 台灣大概賣NT$600~700左右
因為我用這個英文書名, 查不到有任何大陸網站在賣這系列的書籍
(無法理解? 大陸這TOEIC這麼冷門嗎?)
所以本來打算從台灣買, 再寄過來北京, 加上空運郵費, 一本書就變NT$1200左右
還真是不太划算
後來還是抱著 "沒有不可能, 只有不用心" 的決心繼續 google 下去
終於給我找出一個關係就是: "新托业官方考试指南" 是這本書在中國的翻譯書名
所以我再改用這個翻譯書名再去 google 一下
果不其然....
找到很多網路書店有在賣這本書
猜猜看一本賣幾多錢??

練習英文聽力的方法
最近, 滿多人問我怎麼學英文的
其實自己的英文也不算好, 充其量只能算普通吧?!
語言這東西還是要持之以恒地用它, 才會進步的快....(廢話)
提供一下我練習聽力的方式, 其實也是結合別人的經驗而來的經驗
有興趣的人, 可以試試!!
(一)準備工作
準備可以播放的英文對話, 演講或新聞, 另外不論播放的是什麼內容, 一定要有文稿
如果你沒有適當的 Material, 下列的網站會是不錯的選擇:

這是英國BBC的英語學習網站, 有一個學習單元就是 English News
大概每兩三天會有一篇新的新聞教材出來: 包括文稿, 線上語音播放及教學PDF檔
所以可以挑一篇有興趣的新聞來練習
而且一篇新聞通常都不長, 學習時間比較短一點, 算是比較好的起跑點

以下的練習過程先不求理解, 不要試著去理解生字或句子的意義, 切記!!
- 反覆跟讀
播放語音檔, 隨著Speaker所說的每個字, 快速跟讀文章內容 必須達到能跟到每個字的境界, 此階段才算完成 - 大聲朗誦
文章中有生字, 先查發音出來, 先不用去記生字的意思 開始唸出文章內容, 連音, 重音及語調都要儘量模仿Speaker 必須達到唸的時候不會結巴, 有一定的流暢度 - 再跟讀2~3次
朗誦階段後, 再重新跟讀2~3次, 此次跟讀應會比第1次跟讀時聽的還要清楚 如果沒有, 表示前面兩個階段沒有確實做好 - 聽寫
播放語音檔, 一句一句放, 試著把聽到的每句話寫下來 遇到不會拚的字, 根據聽到發音, 試著把字拚出來 反覆聽十次以上還聽不出來的地方就跳過, 那就是弱點 全部寫完後, 再聽一次, Recheck 自己寫出來的文章, 有可能能補上幾個字 最後比對原稿, 所有錯誤的地方都標記起來, 這些都是聽力上的弱點 然後再利用訂正後的稿子重聽一次語音檔, 著重在那些你聽錯的點, 直到聽出來為止 - 完成上述四個階段, 基本上已經快將文章背起來了, 如果有時間, 就把文章背起來, 增加自己的英文知識庫 沒時間, 就把生字整理一下, 看一下生字代表的意思, 我發現這時候要把生字記起來是很容易的一件事 而聽寫的練習, 你就可以理解文章大致上的內容在講什麼, 所以不用擔心到最後還是不知道文章在說什麼
但是只要多練習, 學習的時間會愈來愈短, 聽說的能力也會一直提昇的
